Short answer: Aspect ratio controls the shape of the image. Resolution controls output size and detail.
Steps
Open Settings in the Create composer.
Choose an aspect ratio that matches the destination, such as square, portrait, or landscape.
Choose a resolution supported by the selected model.
Use portrait ratios for phone-first visuals and landscape ratios for wide scenes.
Generate and review the composition before downloading or sharing.
Notes
Higher resolution can create larger, more detailed outputs, but support varies by model.
Some models support exact width-by-height sizes behind the app's resolution controls.
Grok image models default to 3:4. Other image models default to 4:5.
Guided AI image tools default to 4:5 (832 x 1,040 pixels at 1K), and Profile picture is square. Attaching a photo does not change the ratio; the default, or the ratio you pick under Settings, is used for every upload.
A reference photo is not cropped to the ratio you pick. When the shapes differ, the complete photo is kept and the AI composes the extra surroundings. For example, a landscape photo in a 4:5 tool comes back as a 4:5 image with the whole photo inside it and more of the scene above and below.

Troubleshooting
If important content is cropped, choose a wider ratio or describe framing in the prompt.
If text or details look weak, try a higher resolution model or simplify the composition.
If a landscape photo came back vertical from a guided tool, choose 3:2 or 16:9 under Settings and create again. There is no automatic ratio selection to turn back on.
