Choose an Image Model

Choose an image model by output quality, resolution, reference-image limits, and how credits are calculated for those settings.

Short answer

Grok Imagine Image Quality remains the default image model at 1K and portrait 3:4. Choose another model when you need a specific resolution or more reference images, and generate a small test before making variations.

How to choose

1. Open Create and select Image.

2. Choose a model, aspect ratio, and supported resolution.

3. Add reference images within that model’s limit.

4. Generate a small test before spending more credits on variations.

Current image models

• Grok Imagine Image Quality and Grok Imagine Image: 1K or 2K and up to three reference images. Grok image models default to 3:4.

• Nano Banana Lite: 1K only and up to 14 reference images.

• Nano Banana 2: 0.5K, 1K, 2K, or 4K and up to 14 references. It defaults to 1K.

• Nano Banana Pro: 1K, 2K, or 4K and up to 14 references. It defaults to 4K.

• GPT Image 2: 1K, 2K, or 4K and up to four references. Its charge uses a medium-quality estimate because final token use is not known before submission, and the estimate is not adjusted after completion.

• Seedream 4.5: 2K or 4K and up to 10 references.

• Seedream 5.0 Lite: 2K, 3K, or 4K and up to 14 references. It defaults to 3K.

• Seedream 5.0 Pro: 1K or 2K and up to 10 references. It defaults to 2K and does not offer 4K.

Aspect ratios

Grok image models support 16:9, 1:1, 3:4, 3:2, and 9:16. Other selectable image models support 16:9, 1:1, 4:5, 3:2, and 9:16 and default to 4:5.

Credits and refunds

Images are charged per generated image. The charge depends on the model, resolution, and accepted reference count. Multi-image work prices the base and each later image separately because a later image may use the generated base as another reference. A retry, edit, or append is a new generation with its own charge.

If a request is canceled before provider submission or is definitively rejected, Typeshutter refunds the exact saved charge. If the provider outcome is unknown, the charge is held for reconciliation instead of being refunded automatically.

Troubleshooting

• If a resolution or reference count becomes unavailable after changing models, choose one supported by the newly selected model.

• Seedream 5.0 Pro exact sizes use 16-pixel increments and must stay between 921,600 and 4,624,220 total pixels.

• HEIC and HEIF uploads are accepted. Preview or crop preparation may pause briefly before the upload is ready.

• If an upload still fails, try PNG or JPEG and upload it again.
